Dry firing vs snap caps
Hey guys I have been reading past posts about dry firing is ok in a 1911 style pistol.
I also see where some of you use snap caps,do you really need too use them? Have`nt yet used snap caps myself, don`t really dry fire except after I have cleared the chamber of a round. Thanks mike |

Dry practice is an excellent and cheap way to improve your shooting. It helps develop trigger control. Also, by diligently dry practicing presentation from the leather and speed reloads, you can improve those skills as well. In addition, by continuing to diligently abide by the safety rules, you reinforce safe gun handling skills. All without paying for ammunition.
When engaging in dry practice, it's important to be safe. Make sure that there's no ammunition in the area. Triple check that the gun is not loaded, including visually checking the chamber. When dry practicing, use a back stop that would stop a bullet; and adhere to all safety rules. Note rule 2 and, "Do not let the muzzle cover anything you're not willing to destroy." Occasional dry fire will not hurt a 1911. But to be on the safe side, when I engage in my regular dry practice, I use a snap cap. DVC
