I am new to this forum. I like what I see so far. I am starting to get interested in 1911's. I have collected Lugers for about 18 years. So I have a few questions? What books do you recomend? And what books are outdated?

The only book that is readily available which covers both the 1911 and 1911A1 is Charles Clawson's "Collector's Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols Models of 1911 and 1911A1" (Third Edition). It covers the meat and potatoes of what you need to know. Scott Meadows has "U.S Military Automatic Pistols 1894 - 1920", which is weighted heavily toward the 1911, but also has a lot of information on the forerunners of the 1911, and those pistols entered in the trials. There is a promised edition that takes up at 1920 and covers everything up to the present, with most of the emphasis on the 1911A1. Those are the only two books that I would recommend unless you just want to have a complete library on the 1911.
