Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

.22 conversion for RIA

Does anyone have a conversion on an RIA government? I have called Marvel and they quickly say that theirs won't fit the RIA. I called Ciener and he could not say it would or it wouldn't, only that if (and that is a big if) the RIA was to government specs it may fit. If anyone has one installed, how does it perform? I have a Ruger Mk II Government .22, and it is a tack driver, but I want to have some inexpensive .45 practice. I am not new to the shooting game, have been shooting NRA bullseye for the past 23 years. I simply want to have some cheap practice holding a .45.

I've seen people posting about using Colt Slides on their RIA frames, so i don't see why the .22 conversion slides would't work

Rock Island 1911 with ceiner 22 conversion unit

I have had one now for a year. Had to shoot it awhile to "break" it in.
22 slide was very tight to begin with. Slide stop was to tight so I got a spare and turned it down to fit. Great fun. Wish I had a 25 rnd mag for it!!!!

Rock Island

Rock Island makes a conversion for their Gov't model.
S.O.G. has some for $159.95, but the flyer does not show a manufacturer.

I spoke with someone from RIA today regaring this and they said they aren't currently making a .22 conversion. Although they are looking into it.

S.o.g.

Southern Ohio Gun (S.O.G.) does not show it on their website, but in the flyer that came with my last little goodie it has a pic and description of it. The stock number is SOG191122C and it is the full slide unit with a 10 round mag for $159.95
S.O.G. only sells to or through FFL holders, so you need to get yours to call them and say it is OK to sell the unit to you. Then you can deal direct with them, PLASTIC OK but with a 3% upcharge.

Just got info back from S.O.G.

The conversion units are from Eastern Europe, do not have adjustable sights, have plastic mags. Will fit all G.I. Spec 1911s

I will take a pass as I want adjustable rear sight and am leary about plastic mags.

Thumbs up

Ocala1

Don't have access to SOG as I am not FFL.
But from your posts I believe they are EAA units. CDNN had them for a while.
Bought the conversion and 6 mags($19). Pass on the unit, (CDNN refunded my $139) , would not operate on any of of my 1911s. However I bought a ceiner conversion and the EAA (plastic mags) work fine after a 15 minute fix!
$19 for the EEA plastic beats $39 for the ceiner although cieners are now 15 rndrs.
