Please note that the forums in this category are to be used to ask questions or to show us pistols from these manufacturers. They can also be used to ask questions about the parts of a particular pistol from one of these manufacturers, as long as the question relates to the original parts.

  • If your pistol malfunctions and you want to ask for help on how to troubleshoot it, post your question in the "Gunsmithing and Refinishing" forum, not in this one.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market parts, these questions should go in the "Parts - Grips" forum, not in the manufacturers forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about after-market magazines, these questions should go in the "Magazines" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about holsters, those questions should go in the "Holsters" forum, not in these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about conversion kits, those questions should go in the "Conversion Kits" forum, not these forums.
  • If you want to ask questions about which ammo to use with your pistol, those questions should be posted in the "Ammo" forum, not these forums.

Messages with questions for after-market parts, magazines, holsters, conversion kits, ammo etc. will be moved to the proper forum and a warning will be issued.

Auto Ordnance or Springfield WWII?

I'm looking at buying my first 1911, and I'd like it to be as close to the WWII-era 1911A1 as possible; both its appearance and internals. On the other hand, I do intend to fire the thing, so I'd prefer that it be made of reasonably decent quality parts. Given these goals, which would be a better bet: the Springfield GI model (parkerized) or the Auto-Ordnance 1911PKZ? Any comments on this will be appreciated, even if you only have experience with one of these guns.

Thanks,
Jon

The Springfield is probably more likely to work, right out of the box. If you're going to strip it bare and build out, I'd say whichever one is cheaper. Some info here-

My springfield GI model works like a top- love it. If I could only have one or the other, I'd definately go with the Springer.

Nothing really wrong with the Kahr Auto-Ordance. Never had any problems with mine. I have a Springfield Loaded also. If I were to do it again I would have bought a Springfield Mil-spec instead of the Auto-Ordance.

thanks

I'd like to thank everyone who replied to my post. I found a store here in Minnesota, http://www.hart-bros.com/ , that had a Springfield GI in stock (an amazingly hard thing to do, actually), and bought it. IT was $460, which seems like an okay price around here. I haven't had a chance to go try it out yet, but as soon as it warms up, I'll go to the range and break it it a bit.

Thanks again,
Jon
