Colt Combat Target Info
About 2 years ago, I picked up a Colt Combat Target in a pawn shop here in Myrtle Beach. I recognised it as enhanced series 80's and when people ask me to describe it, I tell them that its a poor man's gold cup.
I had actually shot one previously during a "Colt-Day" at the local shooting range when the Colt Rep had brought in factory demo guns that the range would rent to shoot and offer for sale a tremendous savings. It's in excellent condition, and am trying to get the value of it--does anyone have any idea? It's matte blue with colt ellison adjustable sight, no box, no paperwork, but looks like it had maybe 100 rounds through it when the previous owner had it. Thanks |

The Combat Target is a pretty rare gun, but in fired condition it has to be judged against what else is available. I might pay more for it than a NRM M1991A1, but certainly not as much as a Gold Cup, Springfield Loaded (w/adjustable sight) or Kimber Classic Target. So, maybe $700?

$700.00 for a enhanced series 80 Combat Target is what about I figured. I looked on Gunsamerica. com and they had the only one up for sale that I have seen in a long time, but $987.00 seemed to be at the top end for its value. I purchased it for $425.00 and knew I was getting a good deal. The MSRP back in 1997 was about $725.00.

To shoot or not to shoot...
Yeah, it was a great deal and I bought it to be a working gun. However, with the limited year and production, I am having second thoughts on using it as a range/competition gun?

Well a lot of the guns Colt makes are small runs and you'd probably have to wait a hundred years
 for it to be a "collector". Shoot the heck out of it and enjoy it. The only things "stock" on mine are the frame/slide, sights and barrel.Mike |

I recently picked up a stainless one used with the idiot scratch pre-installed.
It was made around 1996 and cost me about $700 with the box but no papers.

The idiot scratch....
The idiot scratch is my favorite negotiation tool when I am dickering over the price of a used 1911 with gun dealers. By itself, it is at least worth $100.00 off the listed price! Ironically enough, that is almost the price of getting the frame refinished. (Although I seen the scratch on some slides!)  |
