1911 question

thanks doran.... after shipping to the depot there is no other way to find out where it went from there?

i bought the gun several years ago at a gun store it was issued to a officer who retired as a major. what i rember is that he was issued it in 1934 and carried it thru ww2 it came with a p38 walther and he had the 1911 chrome plated in the
60's for vfw honor guard

This is the Springfield Research Service site. Scroll down, hit the 1911 button and type in your serial number. It may tell you if there is a record of your pistol ever issued to a unit, ship, etc. If your particular number is not listed it will give you the 10 serial numbers it knows before and after the one you key in. You may be able to make an educated guess from there. Good luck.

HS is a High Standard barrel made in WWII and the P means proof fired. The other marks sound typical for a Colt but placement of the marks is most important. Pictures would be best.
