Mixed Colt
Hi there,
I am new to the forum but have visited quite offten. My question is about a parts colt that I picked up to day at my local gun store. It has a Federal Ordonance Inc. lower recever and a colt slide that has COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.HARTFORD,CT.U.S.A. PAT'D APR.20,1897.SEPT.9,1902.DEC.19,1905.FEB.14,1911.AU G.19.1913. CAL. 45 AUTOMATIC(it also has a prancing pony on the far right) Its kind of thin on blueing and the grips are well worn but for $349 a gun that looks like it came out of WWI or II I couldnt pass it up. I was wondering when it was built, # is FO 2**0. Also would it mattered if I had it re blued. Thanks, Chris |

It doesn't matter if it has been reblued, or will be. Can't say when it was built; but not too long ago! Fed Ord recievers have only been available for a relatively few years, and someone put this gun together. It has no value to a collector since it is a "Frankenpistol". Its value is as a shooter only, and as much as I hate to say this; you paid too much.

Shot it
Hey guys,
Well my dad and I took it shooting. The trigger sucks, but it shoots prety good when you take your time  . But I had a wilson combat mag which I had just loaded and when I placed it in the pistol the slide would fall without touching it  . And I was hopeing yall might know what is causing it.Chris |

Fed Ord frames were notorious for being out of spec. Probably that is the reason why the slide stop lets go of the slide each time you insert a mag. Why some manufacturers could never figure out how to drill the holes in the right places is beyond me.
And yes, Fed Ord made alloy frames as well, so if it feels lighter it probably is. If you like the pistol otherwise you might want to consider saving up for a quality aftermarket frame like one from Caspian. Even the newer Essex frames are better than the Fed Ord, and Essex has never enjoyed a sterling reputation either. |

You are right, my problem was with the trigger reset....opps
