What can you tell me about them? i am being told that these are rare? Approximatally what years were these made?
Also what is a good 98% gun worth in this model?
Im looking for my first 1911 but dont want to overpay...
also i am being told that this model is a american made gun because it has a NM serial number?

You can still get a new one anytime you want - but it's a Custom Shop gun and kinda pricey...

First of all, "NM" serial numbered Springfields, although finished in the U.S. still have significant Brazilian content in raw material and partial machining. Apparently the value added in the U.S. however, is enough to call them U.S. products.

New SA Custom Shop full railed 1911s can be had but I think the price approaches $3K.

Nice, used TRP Operators seem to list and sell on the auctions for $1500+.

What apparently isn't widely known, is that Springfield made Mil-Spec and Loaded full railed Operators which can be had for signifcantly less than that
(less than $1K) and might be a a good starting point for some customization.
They aren't seen too often, however.

    somoe educate me

    what's a "full railed" 1911?

I know an Operator ( I have one) has a rail and also night sights, but not sure if there's something different about a "full" rail

Here's my Lt Wt Champion Operator

    I LOVE it
It accompanies me daily ever since i fund a holster for it
at night, a a quick attach/detach tac light is attached and it does night stand duty

i saw one just like it at a gun shop last week
    Price was $962

The second post in this thread has a good picture of a full railed operator. The distinctive feature is the blocky front end.

To me, I like the looks of the full rail. I really wish they'd make/would have made a full rail champion operator.

I have a custom shop full rail in 9mm. If I had the cash, I'd call and see if they could make me a champion sized one (just cut down the rail, basically). But, I don't have the $ to buy another.

    uh oh...hope i didn't offend ...

I'm curious though, besides the look, are there any benefits to a full rail?

I believe the proponents feel that the added weight at the muzzle reduces muzzle rise (flip?) thereby enabling more accurate rapid fire.

I shoot a .22lr Beretta 87T which which has the same blocky, squared off muzzle (it has a solid steel counterweight at the very end of the receiver) and has the same general appearance. I've been accused a few times of shooting a full rail Operator, and have had to set people straight a few times.

There are 5 types of Full Rail Operators:
    Mil-Spec
    Loaded
    TRP
    Custom Shop
Special Run TRP done by Custom Shop
The Mil-Spec and Loaded were started around 1998 and production ended about 2004. The TRP regular production ended sometime in 2006 but Springfield does have a special run of TRP Full Rail Operators that the Custom Shop makes with regular TRP parts once or twice a year and they run about 2K. Then you have the full house Custom Shop Full Rail that is about 2300 to 5000. I have seen a few New Old Stock Operators online in a couple of other forums and they run in the 900 to 1200 depending what part of the country the pistol is at. I have also seen a few Operators online at Gunbroker and Gunsamerica and those pistols went way too high 1200 to 2100 for used Mil-Spec, Loaded and TRPs that were in what I would call rough shape. The pistols are rare and there are allot of people including myself that want them and sellers know that.
    Hopes this helps
