    1911 Grips with Girl

    Hello Everyone:

I was at the gun show yesterday, I saw a man with a set of real ivory grips that had a girl carved into the grip. They were really nice, but the asking price was too high ($1500 a set), and I doubt it would make a good carry grip. Anyhow, I wanted to know if anyone know where I can get a set of grips for my Kimber SIS Custom that has pictures/inlay/carved girls on it, that I can actually use on a daily basis.

Any type of material would be fine. I just want something that different, but it has to be for DAILY USAGE, and not something that is intended to be frame mounted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These folks are excellent, but the grips they make will be unique and exactly to your specification ($$):

It doesn't cost anything to call them and tell them what you want, see what they can do.....

You might also contact Kim Son Vu. He's in Vietnam and makes 1911 grips out of materials like water buffalo horn. I believe he has some ivory-like material and he can possibly reproduce any artwork you provide to him. Prices are reasonable and the workmanship is excellent.

Not endorsing anyone but you might like this guy's work, he's from Tupelo, Mississippi. He has a web site and sells on E-bay. For carry you might like polymer better, your pocketbook will. he does both carving and scrimshaw.

Thanks everyone. I did a google search on schimshaw and got a lot of hits. But thanks for all the helpful reply. Haven't found exactly what I wanted, but I'll keep looking. If ya know of any additional sites that fits what I'm looking, please post.

I second the "Finer Grain" recommendation.

I've bought two sets from Ryan (Sarge43) so far; the quality's top notch!

    Take care,

    Rick
