I have never heard of anyone making a polygonal barrel for the 1911 (that does not mean there is not one made though). From what I have heard about polygonal barrels they are mainly with H&K and that sort than the older style pistols such as the 1911. I cannot see any advantage of the polygonal barrel over the traditional rifled barrels. I myself trust the methods of pull button or hammer forging than twisting a heated barrel but I am a little stubborn in my ways.
Yeah, a polygonal 1911 barrel sounds pretty funky to me too. I haven't heard of it.
I think Peters Stahl in Germany has made some polygonal 1911 barrels.
Can't see the sense of it... to the shooter at least. I think they have some manufacturing advantages, in a hammer forging setup a mandrel with no corners would probably last longer. Most of the advertising is just making a virtue of necessity.
