    Good value suggestions gqucool1911,
And as long as you mentioned weight... I'll add that my Ultra CDPs (alloy) are about 25 oz. and my stainless Officers is around 32. It may not seem like a lot in numbers, but after about 8 hours you can tell! Still, I do carry the Officers from time to time.
I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.
It only takes a second to dial 911; it could take the rest of your life for help to arrive...
Posts are my opinion based on my experience; YMMV.

You guys are the best- I appreciate all of the help.

The choices seem somewhat overwhelming when it comes to 1911's and it is difficult to sort out some of the positive and negative things that one reads on the web.

Basically, I don't think I'd be opposed to a 3 1/2 or 4 inch barrel (mated to the small frame) and would probably be able to scrape up a grand or so for the best weapon.

I'm a little spoiled by my Springfield TRP which has 2000 rounds through it and only two malfunctions which were both a result of an improperly seated mag. I would like something that can approach that kind of dependability first and foremost.

    Narrowing down the overwhelming options...

OK, now that you are looking at 3-1/2" or 4" (why not include the very slightly larger 4-1/2") with an Officers frame, you can now start thinking about its intended use (carry?) and whether or not you want an alloy frame or not.

I think that in all sizes 3" to 4-1/4" you will find examples with carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy frames.

Take a look at this thread:
For an Officers Fan: looking for a Colt 4-1/4 w/Officers grip
that includes a lot of options that I'm currently exploring.

Minor correction: The Slim Hawg has a 3" barrel, so it is smaller than an Officers. The Para pistol that is the same as a Colt Officers is the OPS model.

A couple months ago American Handgunner's cover story was "A pair of Paras" and featured two 3.5" 1911s. One single action the other LDA. One was called the CCO. The other name and which was which escapes me, but it might be worth checking it out. They were both well thought of by the staff writers.

Small 1911? It depends with what you compare it.

    Compared to this ...

the Government is tiny. Even the Desert Eagle is tiny!

Yeah, I know, I am a wise guy, so I am out of here, I can't offer any constructive ideas here, we are not allowed to own that small pistols, so I thought I'll offer some (maybe bad) humour.

John, I tried carrying one of those concealed once, and it ripped the heck out of the lining of my jacket. I got a sore back too.

I know -- a very bad joke; but it's been a slow day.

I believe Colt makes one in 3" called the Defender.
