Slide wouldn't stay open after last shot fired

Apparently I have above average large hands. Having said that, when shooting with a proper "thumbs up" grip, my thumb (or thumbs) were not allowing the slide lock to work.
My np29 no longer has a extended slide lock. I cut off 1/4 inch. I guess its a custom gun now. I'd post some pics if I could.... not sure if photo bucket works with I pad... help a newby out if you can.

Since this does not appear to be a maintenance question, we'll move it to Gunsmithing and Troubleshooting. That said, I don't understand the question. Are you saying that the problem was due to an extended slide stop lever, so you addressed it by shortening the lever? If so, why not just replace with a standard slide stop?

I believe the Norinco model in question comes with an extended slide stop from the factory. So the part in question IS the standard slide stop!

I use a thumbs-forward grip too, and extended slide stops are a problem for me. As are pretty much all slide stop/release levers in tupperware pistols, or at least all I've tried.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

'Standard' usually refers to armory style 1911s.

The part is not that expemnsive but their os a lot of troubleshooting that can be done before it is liable to be productive.

Put an empty magazine in the pistol and cycle the action by hand while looking down into the ejection port.

    Does the slide stop catch?
Is the actuator button on the slide stop being lifted by the magazine follower?

If it does not work in hand cycling it is even less likely to operate correctly 'at speed.'

Magazine followers not catching the slide stop are easy to check.

'Weak' magazine springs will fail to lift the follower fast enough to catch at speed (but may work hand cycling).

Is the magazine clean and lightly lubed on the inside?

The black 9mm is the gun I trimmed the slide stop and the safety on. My new gun (45acp) has the extended thumb stop and extended safety as well. I will see about getting the standard thumb stop and standard safety. I haven't had any issues with the 9mm slide operation since completing the modifications.

Your cut to the blue gun's slide stop is quite functional. Not extended to the rear to be bumped or recoiled into engagement, but broader to the side for easy hit by the left thumb between the reload and getting back into a firing grip.

Does a slide lock that large interfere with a draw or get caught on a concealment shirt/jacket easily?

Honestly Tawadc95 I don't know why its even offered.
it was raining here in Manitoba so got to making both guns the same.
I trimmed the extended slide stop/safety on the satin chrome gun and used Perma Blue (cold blue) as per the directions.
