    Marking on a GOVERNMENT 1968

On the Net I've seen some pictures of a COLT Government dated 1968 with this strange (to me) marking under the mag release button; I don't recall ever having seen it before.
I wonder if other 1911 aficionados more knowledgeable than me can recognize it.

Originality can't be restored, so put "originality" at the top of a priority list. If JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.

Well, if you can assume it's original bluing(not reblued), I would think it was put there by the factory, under the bluing? Perhaps you could contact them?
