Thread: Has Springfield abandoned the internal locking system?

    Yes -- with the usual caveat that there are no drop-in parts in a 1911, of course.

    You will also need new internals.
    Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

    Subject to the usual caveat that with 1911s no part can be assumed to always be a drop-in ... yes. I don't think I've ever heard of a Springfield that wouldn't accept an aftermarket MSH, but there's probably one out there that could be a tight fit.
