New to 1911s and new to forum

Just bought a Ruger 1911 on 8/17 and had my first chance to take it out to shoot today. Fired two rounds, first failed to feed and second stove piped. Now the slide sticks as it passes over the end of the disconnect. Was very disappointed and have not yet had a chance to talk to Ruger. Has anyone else had feed problems? Shooting 230gr factory ball ammo. Not asking for gunsmithing, just commenting.

Did you clean and properly lube the new pistol?

Yes I did, I always clean, oil and get very familiar with any weapon I'm going to be firing. Before the first round all actions on the pistol were very smooth.

First thing I do to a new weapon is to take it apart, clean and lube it. I suspect that will fix your issue, if not try changing the brand of ammo. Or, just call Ruger, they will take care of it. Ruger makes a nice weapon, sorry to hear of your woes with it.

Yeah I was very surprised that this happened as I have had many Ruger firearms over the years and always been satisfied.

It is new and sounds like it is nice and tight. How did it run after the first two rounds?

I couldn't get the slide to close at first. As soon as the slide hit the disconnect it would stop. For some reason the disconnect wouldn't push down easily as the slide went over it. After I got it home and put a load of different machine oil in it, it loosened up some. I finally got a few rounds through it with no problem. Just doesn't feel right.

Fortunately, this site has dealt with other sticky disconnectors before.
    http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.ph...948#post938948 for one.
This site also covers the intricacies of disassembling the pistol that you will need to accomplish to perform the above inspection. However, if you get stuck and need help, I shoot at the Central Texas Club, about halfway between Dallas and Austin.

Thanks Pyrenean, I talked to the support team at Ruger and am sending it to them. Hopefully they find the problem.

Great I was thinking this is a send it back to Ruger situation.
