    making a good 1911 excellant

    I wanted to try making a excellent 1911 from a good basic pistol;

    1. Purchased a Ruger Commander frame 1911 at a gun show for $650
    2. Installed a Cylinder and Slide TAC 4 parts set for $140.
    3. Installed Pachmyr wrap around grips $29
    4. Installed a Wilson combat Bullet Proof slide stop which I had in my parts box
    5. Got two Wilson Combat magazines for $25 each at a gun show.

    Result is a excellent pistol for less then $900

    Only gunsmithing required was a tiny bit of stoning to clearance the safety stop stud with a stone.

    I will try and get a picture...The grips really make this pistol look and its shoots so well...crisp trigger right at 4 lbs.

    Sounds like you are well on your way to an excellent 1911. You might want to consider adding the NightHawk flat wire spring set up. Shoot and enjoy!

    Why change the slide-stop? Did the original have any last-round lock-back problems?

    I was lucky as the one I bought in Jan 2013 came from the factory with a very nice trigger pull. They are a very nice pistol for the money.

    I just happened to have it in my parts box. I had no problems at all with the pistol as it came out of the box. I think it is the best 1911 pistol for the money right now. I have a Wilson CQB and my wife has a Nighthawk Talon.
