I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, just probing a different market segment.

It does seem to me that if you were going to make a GI reproduction, you would make more of an effort to accurately reproduce the actual service pistols. Colt has come pretty close, but nobody else I know of. The CZ is better than most, the most obvious modernizations being the tall sights and low ejection port. also an intermediate trigger slightly shorter than 1911, considerably longer than 1911A1.

I agree. Five of my six 1911's are basic GI models. Two are 1927 Argentines; a Springfield GI Model; a Tisas 1911-A1 and a Tisas 1911-A2. I did have fixed combat sights put on one of the Argentines while the other is 100% as issued. Oddly enough, my favorite to shoot is the Tisas 1911-A1. It feels right, has a great trigger and is accurate. With roughly 1,000 rounds through the pistol, the Tisas is as reliable as can be hoped for. It's been many hundreds of rounds since a bad cartridge jammed it... not the gun's fault.

My sixth 1911 is a Remington R1 Enhanced that I just bought. The first couple of magazines gave me two cartridges that started into the chamber but failed to fully seat. I replaced the factory recoil spring with a Wolfe 18.5# variable spring and the last 100 rounds have been perfect. It's a nice 1911 and I plan on shooting it a lot.

I may have missed it but why was the production stopped? Did CZ provide a reason?

If I'm reading the thread correctly, CZ set a production number and when it was reached, they stopped. Those familiar with manufacturing practices know that production lines are allocated so much time for a specific product. When the goal is reached or the time expires, the line is used for something else. It's why we see certain products listed as a "seasonal run"; i.e., they make so much and then won't again until maybe a year later.

If CZ-USA evaluates the sales of their 1911 and can justify it, they may allocate time for another run. In the meantime it's likely that the production line used to make the CZ 1911's is turning out more 1911's with another name on them.

I just passed the 1100 round mark on my CZ 1911A1 without a single issue yet. I'm really surprised that these guns are not snapped up whenever they appear for sale. Where else can you get Dan Wesson quality for under $800 in a GI style pistol. I don't really think of them as much as USGI style though, as they seem more like they are fashioned after a 1930s era commercial 1911. Either way, they are a steal given the quality of the pistol. My LGS has two in stock and they've been sitting in their case for months. I'm really tempted to grab one as a basis for a project gun. All it really needs is a grip safety, thumb safety, MSH, possibly a trigger and sights to make a great carry 1911. When I run the numbers for a project gun using the CZ as a starting point, it comes up much better than starting off with a Springer or other similarly priced 1911.

Like you, I continue to agree the CZ 1911 A1 is a great deal. It's been a few months but I saw a few posts (elsewhere) where they were selling in the mid-600.00 (at that time). I gave 702.00 close to a year ago and I thought that was an excellent deal. Still do.
