    Compact 9MM 1911 Suggestions

I'm looking for a compact (3.0"-3.5") 1911 chambered in 9MM. Price range is $500-$700. My main concern is reliability. Any suggestions?

I've owned a Springfield EMP and a Para Carry 9 LDA. The EMP had about 1 FTF every 50 rounds and the Para had about 2-3 FTF every 50 rounds. Both good guns, but I'm looking for better reliability than that.

As much as I love heritage and design of the 1911 probably there are better 9MM weapons for carry, surely cheaper.
Originality can't be restored, so put "originality" at the top of a priority list. If JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.

You should have gotten the EMP FIXED instead of selling your problems.
A cheap reliable small 9mm is not going to be a 1911.

colt45acp and Jim make some good points. To me, the 1911 just feels right and I'd like to carry one if it was concealable enough. I'll just keep enjoying my full-size 1911 as a range gun and keep carrying my j-frame.

I have a Colt Defender I bought in 2010 and it has been 100%, but you are looking at more like a $1K thing. Not sure about other small 1911 brands that shoot 9mm.

I don't think you can find what you're looking for within your budget.

This one has a 3.5" barrel, and should be within budget:

    EDIT to add:

They also do an 'ultra' version, with a few more frills. Looks like it has more up-market grips, an ambidextrous safety with extended levers, and an adjustable rear sight. I think I'd prefer the 'standard' one above, but FWIW:

    SECOND EDIT:

Well I oughta scroll all the way down the model page, before posting... there's a third one, this time with a rail:

Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

I recently got a SA Range Officer Compact 9mm but haven't had a chance to fire it yet. I've been carrying a P938 without any reliability issues.

The Range Officer Compact has a 4-inch barrel. That's getting pretty far outside the envelope when the OP started out with pistols that had 3-inch barrels, and is now considering 3-1/2 inch models.

What about a Colt Defender? It's available in 9mm.
