Here’s a new custom build from John Harrison that was just completed this year. I got on John’s waitlist in 2008 and I have to say the wait was well worth it. This one was intended as a full custom build with just about everything I could want in a 1911 and the specs and the quality of John’s work greatly exceeded my expectations. John was patient and responsive to all of my questions and helpful in offering suggestions. By way of background, this isn’t my first rodeo, I’ve owned many custom 1911s bought from others, and I’ve had builds done for me by Bob Rodgers and Ted Yost. In working with John to put the specs together, it helped greatly that I had, from my other custom 1911s, a very good idea of what I wanted and why.
The general specs are:
Colt NRM 1991 base gun
Kart barrel with H-D bushing and spring plug
H-D Extreme service thumb safety, slide stop, hammer, sear, trigger, mag catch, plunger tube, and grip screws
Harrison Design HD-002 rear sight with dovetail SDM front sight
Legacy Custom magwell
CMC beavertail
Scalloped front and back straps
Flattened and serrated slide with beveled lower edges and ball cuts
Welded and remachined slide rails
Matte black Ionbond DLC finish
Hand made smooth walnut grips
Of course all of the customary reliability tuning, beveling sharp corners, blending, etc. that you would expect in a full build were done.
Enjoy the photos, I’m just so impressed by the flawless craftsmanship that went into this pistol.
