    "Wide Spur" Hammers?

Other than on a Colt, where would you expect to find the "wide spur" hammer? Early Remington-Rand? Early Ithaca? Early US&S?

Singer had them; I've not seen or heard of them used on any of the other mfgrs, other than Colt.

Any military pistol made before WWII, and some of those made "early" in WWII.
I just googled "Remington Rand M1911A1", and none of the pictured guns had wide hammers. When I googled "wide hammer Remington Rand", I found an auction for "1943 Mfg." RR, with a wide hammer. Original to the gun?

I was thinking(?) that R-R, Ithaca, and Singer had all purchased hammers from Colt during their early production runs.

Remington Rand, Ithaca and US&S pistols never had wide spur hammers from the factory. If you ever see one, it was changed by someone later in it's life. Singer had the wide spur hammers throughout it's 500 pistol run. Colt A1 pistols had wide spur hammers up until about serial number 1,700,000.

Thanks, Duane. I guess I must have read something erroneous about R-R, Ithaca and US&S.

Not just meaning to be argumentative, Duane, but "www.model1911a1.com" lists this information for the first batch of Remington Rands: "Du-lite blued finish is found from serial number 916405 to about 995000. The bullet ramp of the receiver was machined after the pistol was blued or parkerized leaving it bright unfinished with fine machining marks which was performed on all Remington Rands. Note the "stubby" hammer which is found on these early pistols along with Colt widespur hammers." Do you believe that this is incorrect?

I don't believe that this was standard practice but I've learned too, over the years, to never say never when it comes to some of these very early start up pistols. I guess that it was possible that there were a few early Type I RR that had Colt wide spur hammers.

I was thinking that I had read that, somewhere.
