    Question New Recoil Spring?

I don't know much about 1911s, but my Randall was made in the 80s and, most likely, has all original parts. The recoil when I shoot it feels pretty heavy, and the slide is pretty easy to rack. Should I replace the recoil spring? Does anyone have a link to a compatible spring to buy? Last time I took it out shooting, and cleaned it afterwards, I noticed that the recoil spring is not symmetrical, but I didn't remember which side pointed towards the front. Is it bad if I put it in backwards? Which way should it go?

    Thanks.

The closed end of the spring goes toward the rear of the gun, tight against the recoil spring guide.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

Wolff states that some recoil springs have a closed smaller diameter end (coils are tighter) and that should go toward the recoil spring guide like Spyros said. They also say that the spring may need to be rotated to get it on the guide.

The standard recoil spring for a Government .45 ACP 1911 is 16# and they can be found here : http://www.gunsprings.com/Semi-Auto%...D1/mID1/dID1#3
