Auto-Ordnance serial numbers and date made

I called AO because I was curious as to when my gun was made.

My serial number is AOA282xx and it was made July 2013.

Maybe some of you with different serial numbers can call and see when yours was made. And post back here with date made and frame type. Maybe we can find a pattern!

Still trying to figure out when the frame change was made.

    AO Telephone: 508-795-3919
Press 1 for Tech Support... they picked up right away and I had my answer in less than a minute!

    Hey fredg.

Just called Kahr for a date of manufacture on my AO 1911PKZ. Ser # AOA289xx. No fuss no muss. Helpful and fast CS.

Manufactured in Aug 2013 - a month after yours. New frame style.

    Pics of my 8/2013 AO 1911: 8/2013 AO 1911 - ser # AOA289xx

Hope fully a few AO 1911 owners in the frame transition period will call Kahr. I couldn't have been on the phone more than a minute before tech support had my date.

Problem might be that looking up records for older models (pre-Kahr or just around the sale of AO to Kahr) may not be as fast or even possible. Kahr/AO may not have kept those records or they may not be electronically retrievable.

But evidence points to the frame style changing well after the sale of AO to Kahr so those records should be available.

More data folks! Give Kahr a call. They are nice people - really.

The change is fairly recent, my other AO was a 2011 and had the semi-wide front strap with the overhang slide stop. I am thinking our frame style came out at least hit and miss, in 2012.

And the one before that was a 2008 with the crazy wide front strap.

Ahh. So if your 2011 AO was not "new old stock" it was probably manufactured in 2011 as well. Maybe late 2010.

I had to pull up my old posts here to double check the dates...

My first AO with the super wide strap was a 2007, my second AO with the semi wide front strap was a 2010.

If you read this thread you will see where I was on the serial number explanation hunt even back then!

And can you post a pic so we can see the frame style? Got to assume it is the newer frame style if it was made in Sept. 2013.
