Please use this area to post full tests. A two- or three-lines post, with your opinion about a product is NOT a test. A test should include full description, pictures, and of course your opinion. But it should be a full article, just like the ones you read in a magazine.
All threads which do not meet these requirements will be moved to another forum and you will be warned. |

Hey Guys,
I've owned a number of 1911's and recently settled on Nighthawk as my 1911 of choice. I bought a lightweight Talon II bobtail because I couldn't take the wait any longer on my Nighthawk Heinie PDP Commander which is still about three months out. Well I noticed there was some play in the slide to frame fit in the front so I called Nighthawk and they sent me a shipping tag via email the same day I talked to them about sending it in. It's not a big deal, just something I'd like not... Read More |

I picked up a Talon II lightweight bobtail a few days ago to feed my Nighthawk obsession until my PDP Commander arrives. I took the gun out and put 350 rounds through it. I shot it side by side with my Wilson CQB and I was amazed at how little difference there was in recoil. My Executive Carry had more felt recoil than the lightweight Talon II and I'll get to that in a bit.
The gun functioned flawlessly with all of my mags. Mostly 47Ds, but a couple ETM's, the blued Nighthawk and the... Read More |

A reissue that exceeds the original?

One of the most sought after Colt handguns is the original Series 70 Government Model. This new (re-issue) Mark IV/Series 70, in stainless steel, is winning over a whole new generation of handgunners.

Test of a slightly modified Colt
|
|

This is a recently purchased, unmodified Colt Government model with a number of added frills such as ambi safety, series 90/enhanced beavertail, one piece, full length guide rod. The Trigger pull registers 5 lb 12 oz.
The pistol comes with two Colt magazines with Shooting Star followers. Like most recent 1911s, the extractor was dropped into the tunnel with no tension. I ran a magazine or two manually with no apparent problems with feed or ejection. Since the extractor would not retain a... Read More |

Norinco NP 29 1911 9MM
Initially I thought I would do a “Tale of two guns”, comparing the Norinco to the Trojan. That would be like comparing a old jeep to a new Rolls. Both are vehicles but… The Norinco NP 29 differs from it’s twin A1 in .45acp in a number of ways. First the gun comes with a beavertail with mandatory palm bump, extended slide stop, extended mag release and a different safety – longer and somewhat flatter. It also has passable sights, though if the idiot in China thinks he... Read More |

The focus of this “test” was simply to evaluate the pistol and it's additional features over a period of time and number of rounds. My findings are outlined below.

A guide made out of personal experience.

There are many advantages to buying guns used. Not only is the price lower, but the selection is more varied. You can often tell the functional quality of the gun by examining wear patterns on it. It is not uncommon for the seller to allow the buyer to shoot the gun. That is the ultimate test, and no NIB gun seller can match it.

A custom pistol
|
|
|
Several weeks ago, I opted to build a long slide .45 ACP under the watchful eye of a close friend who had made a very fine 1911 via Dave Sample's On-Line 1911 class. I'd been most impressed with his pistol and that of his son, who'd also taken the course. I had seen and shot both of these pistols and had to have something similar.
