So, I was in the market for my second 1911 (my first is a RIA CS...daily carry), and I have been wanting a SR1911 since I have always been and will always be a Ruger fan (nothing beats a Ruger revolver for chewing through heavy reloads). So I had jiust about given up and was going to settle for a Taurus PT1911 but decided to call Bass Pro and ask if they had one. I just knew they wouldn't, so when the guy on the other end of the phone said that they did have one and that he would put my name on it and hold it till I got there, I nearly dropped the phone. An hour and $699 dollars later and it went home with me. Have not been to the range yet, hoping to this weekend.

I've been trying to find one since day one. Gander Mountain had three but wanted full MSRP. Guess I'll keep looking. Like you, I'm a big Ruger fan. Love the 45 Colt.

Congrats on the find. Since you have started a trend to double your collection. You'll have to buy two pistols next time to keep up the trend. Hey, it's the rules isn't it???? :lm:

New member here. Nice find and a good price. I've waiting for one for a year now and could never find one. I gave up and got a Springfield RO. Maybe one day I'll get a Ruger.

Sounds like a good rule to me, however, I might be living in the garage.....I don't think the wife would like that rule.

At any rate, got to the range over the weekend and found a few kinks. It ate all the factory ammo FMJ I put through it, but did not like the 230 gr Hornady XTPs I reloaded for it. Out af an 8 round mag, I got at least an average of 2-3 failiures to return to battery. I loaded them using slightly over the min load in my Lee manual. I think the Lee manual is a little bit over-conservative with it's loads when compared to a lot of other sources. Didn't have my Hornady manual when I loaded them, so I went with Lee and they didn't do so well. I think the heavy spring on my SR1911 likes them a little hotter than that, after all, it's a Ruger.

At any rate, with the factory ammo, it did pretty good. I was shooting low and to the left, but I think that was me and not the gun. I always seem to do that with every new gun I get until I get used to it. shooter error, not gun error. the only thing I will say is that after about 200 rounds, the grip screws lossened up quite a bit. Not a big deal there either. I think I'm going to put some Hogue grips on there to match the ones I have on my RIA CS, I love those.

CONGRATS!! Enjoy that beautiful 1911.

I finally got to buy my Ruger sr1911. After waiting 1 year to find one for a decent price. I wasn't ready to plunk down $800 (and up) for this 1911. I kept telling myself.....the prices will drop once the "craze" dies down and dealers sit on them for a while.

That's NOT going to happen.

I found a dealer online (by PURE luck) who had 15 of these Ruger sr1911's in stock that he just got in from Ruger. A friend of his works at Ruger.

He sold me one for $700 shipped (out the door) and I will have it this week. He wanted more, but I played hardball with him as best I could......and he sold it to me for what I wanted to pay.

Ruger website shows MSRP $799 (it used to be $699). So, get one NOW before they go higher.
