Anyone familiar with grip manufacturers that make grips for the DW Bobtail other than Esmerilda's? I hate to spend $130+ for a set of grips, and find I don't like them or they are not functional. Myself and Mr. Dremel could get the cut down, but the finish of course would be scrap after the cut. Thank you all in advance.

Alumagrip (http://www.alumagrips.com/) makes a bobtail. They are very nicely made. VZ Grips (http://www.vzgrips.com/) makes bobtail grips in micarta.

Herrits (http://www.herrett-stocks.com/) may do some custom work and may be willing/able to bobtail their standard 1911 stocks. It may be worth an email to them.

BTW, I bought a pair of Esmeralda smooth cocobolo grips for my Ed Brown bobtail, and I am very impressed. They fit perfectly. They work just fine, including the milled cut for the ambi safety. They're beautiful, beautifully finished and exactly as they were pictured on her website (http://www.esmeralda.cc/).

But please be advised that I am a sucker for pretty wood (and ivory and stag). The Alumagrips and the VZ Grips appear to be very well designed and made and may have some practical/functional advantages.

Good luck with your search.
