Hello. My name is also Ken (I see one of the most recent posts here is from another soul named Ken). I retired a year ago after 40 years with the federal government in Baltimore and moved back to my home town of Pittsburgh.

While I am very interested in guns, I haven't done any shooting in a long time (maybe 20 years). I do have a collection of handguns (mostly). Some are personal purchases and some are ones I inherited when my dad died in 1987. Among my collection is a Series 70 Gold Cup Colt (mine), a Series 70 Govt Model (nickel plated and genuine ivory grips -- my dad's), an Armscor M1911 AIFS labeled Taylors & Co. I bought last year, and a stainless-steel Essex frame and a whole box of miscellaneous parts I planned to build (or have built) into a bullseye gun before I got the Gold Cup. So I say I have 3-1/2 M1911s (the 1/2 being the unassembled parts gun). While my main interest has been the .45ACP M1911, I just ordered a SA XD(M)-5.25 in 40S&W for something "different."

I'm very much a procrastinator and have been meaning to find a local club and range and get out and start shooting again, since I now have plenty of time to do it. But now that it's winter, I don't plan to go out in the cold weather to do any shooting.

I came across M1911.org while looking for something else on the Net, found it interesting and registered.

Glad you decided to join us here on the forum Ken! Nice collection of weapons you have; hope you can get back to shooting soon.

Welcome to you Ken...and all your kin. Oh, and the other Ken too! I found a bunch of parts in my "drawer", about 1/2 of a 1911... and started putting a pistol together. Just was never good at fractions I guess. Gotta finish it cause I promised Traxxis I would get him to blue it...

My story is , I assembled all of the I wanted to put together a nice bullseye pistol back in the late 70s. At the time, a friend and mentor from my gun club was willing to build the pistol for me. He did a trigger job on a Colt 1911 I owned, so I knew his work to be quite good. His price would have been reasonable, too. Unfortunately, before I got together with him to build my gun, he was transferred out of the Baltimore area and I never heard from him again. Since by then I had a Gold Cup to use for the club's pistol league, I didn't have a need to have a custom build, so together with my being a procrastinaror, tile passed and I lost the drive to put all my parts together into a complete pistol. Especially since I no longer had someone I knew who could do it for what I considered a reasonable (meaning what I could afford at the time) price.
