This is my Ruger SR1911 after 500 rounds of hardball.

I've had this thing for awhile, but decided I'd give it a good tryout before posting anything about it. That way I avoided all the "where's the pictures?" and where's the "range report?" issues. There are only 500 rounds of brass in the picture, but it's actually had 600 thru it now.

Initial impressions:
This gun is nice and tight. No play in the slide or barrel or at the barrel bushing. It can be field stripped without using the bushing wrench, but it's tight enough that it's easier to use it. The whole gun is bead blasted and it gives it a nice even satin sheen. I'm not sure what recoil spring it has in it, but it's HEAVY. It takes a lot of effort to rack the slide. The grips are cocobolo, but are darker than most I've seen. The right grip is almost black. It came with one 7 and one 8 round magazine. I ordered an additional 7 round mag from Ruger. The magazines have Ruger's logo on them, but I think they are made by Checkmate. I know for sure the follower is, because it has the same patent number as some other Checkmate magazines I have.

At the range:
Initially, I only shot my 230 gr. FMJ reloads through it. That's the 500 rounds you see in the picture. The sights were dead on at 15 yards. I haven't tried shooting beyond that range. The trigger is faily light - 4.5 pounds with just a bit of creep. It's improved over time - 600 rounds and a few hundred dry fires. What can I say? It's a Ruger - every hardball round has fed, fired and ejected with no issues. I used all 3 Ruger mags, plus a Springfield Armory, a Taurus, Chip McCormick Power Mag and 2 S&W Checkmate mags. They all worked fine. I tried some of my lead SWC reloads in it and had a few failures to feed. The shoulder on the SWCs catch on the feed ramp. Then I noticed that the box of ammo I was using was seated out farther than usual. Evidently my seating stem came loose and backed out a ways. I'll load some more right and try these again. It was a long wait to get this gun - 4 months, but it was worth it. It's a pretty nice 1911.

50 rounds at 7 yards:
These were CCI brass, CCI 300 Primers, 6.2 Gr Win AutoComp and Win 230 gr FMJ bullets.

Sounds good. I've had mine for a little over two weeks and haven't been able to shoot it yet due to work or bad weather. Went to the range a week ago and the place was crazy. Everyone trying to get their rifles sighted in for quickly approaching deer season. Even the 25 yard benches had folks with deer rifles using them! Hoping to get to the range today and put at least 50 or 100 rounds though it. Hopefully I can use my chronograph and see how the handloads I worked up are performing. With that info I'll be able have better idea where to go with my loads. Also have two types of factory hardball ammo. If I can use the range I'll post at least a written report. :D

Nice piece you have there. TopGunSupply has those same mags for less than Ruger, I have not bough any myself but they seem like a good deal.

I take it you liked those 7rd mags since you bought another one, right?

Thanks for the info on the magazines! Yeah I do. I don't shoot competition and I like the 7s for concealed carry because they fit flush. They work well in my S&W 1911 E-Series SC also.

I'm also at the 500 round point with my SR1911, and my results parallel yours. I have the Ruger Check-Mates, some non-Ruger Check-Mates, and the rest Chip McCormick PowerMags. All have worked flawlessly for me.

I like the Ruger because it seems to be an eminently serviceable 1911 that I don't need to baby. It shoots well, feels great, and I don't have a fortune tied up in it.

What's not to like?

I had to make a slight adjustment to the right after this but it was shooting to poa as far as the six o'clock hold went, now it shoots in the center. i love the darn thing and the only thing wrong with it is I dont get to shoot enough.

Enjoyed your report and photo. Unfortunately for me, I am still looking for me SR1911.
