Darn! Now I want a commander.

I stopped at a local gunshop on the way to see my mom. They had a used Series 80 commander that looked new. It had one of those light rails like LAPD uses on the dustcover attached. It had night sights and was blued with a price $595.00 Doh! :( I don't have the coin. I have a full size Norinco and have previously owned a Colt 1991 and Springfield full size milspec. Now I want a commander.

I'm after one too. Haven't decided on a NRM, or a pre 70 series. And yes coin is a problem as well. I have an original Series 70 GM in the box, but can't seem to sell it.

Had a table at a San Angelo TX gunshow this last weekend, was selling copies of a DVD on Defensive Carry I produced.

Saw 4 Commanders, all LW models; one mostly XSE cofiguration, one 2 tone (I bought this one), one Mark IV series 80, and one "plain jane" 1984 model in original box.

After several gun shows with no Lightweight Commanders (I'd been looking for another) it was a bit of a surprise to see that many at such a small gun show like we usually have here.

The two Colt blue models both were tagged at $650, the stainless XSE and the two tone I bought were both tagged at $795 but both of us who bought those got a little off on them.

My two tone is a black anodized aluminum alloy frame with the enhanced cut high on the front strap at the rear of the trigger guard, and a stainless slide with the flat "ridge" on the top curve of the slide; the slide is stamped "Combat Commander Model" instead of "Lightweight Commander Model" and the serrations (rear only) are angled. Mainspring housing is arched and the gun has conventional short guide rod and standard recoil spring plug.

Gun was in brand new (little or no firing wear from previous owner) condition with no mars or scratches on the exterior. Grips were rubber wraparound with silver Colt medallion on both sides, but 15 minutes after purchase it was wearing my extra set of original design Crimson Trace LaserGrips.

I think I'm going to enjoy carrying this as my "dress up" gun, I have one other LW Commander that was pretty well "beat up" and abused when I got it but it is now in very good accurate shooting shape. Makes a very good "service gun".

...I did...Before I bought it. This was supposed to be one-of-a-kind. Two tone CLW's were definitely not in the last catalog Colt published.

Serial number on the frame in the photo has been altered in PhotoShop...You know, names being changed to protect the innocent.

PS Non slip tape was added by me, skin on my palm and fingers is very dry and slick; grips are Crimson Trace LaserGrips. I've found some Trijicon night sights for the Combat Commander and did the "layaway" trick on them. Once they're in place I may put wood grips on the gun but will often use the LaserGrips when teaching if a student is "borrowing" my older Commander.

Sweet! Nice looking pistol. I played around with the crimsons in a shop a while back and found it interesting but expensive.
