So I took the gun to the range yesterday to see how it would run...

I brought the 8 round Ruger mag and 4 Wilson Combat ETM 8 round mags. For ammo, I had 100 rounds of WWB and 50 rounds of Blazer aluminum case. I forgot the JHP at home , sorry. I'll probably go again this weekend and I give it a whirl then.

Rounds 0-80 (WWB): flawless. I was shooting at 15-20 meters and keeping it in a 6'' pattern while firing at a moderate pace (1 shot every 1-3 seconds). That's acceptable 1911 accuracy for me. I have 1911's that I'm more accurate with (S&W E-series), but I'm guessing the decreased accuracy with this gun was mostly from the trigger. By no means is it a bad trigger, but it does have some play. My guess is that with either more practice or some work on the trigger accuracy will improve.

Rounds 80-96 (8 WWB in Ruger mag, 8 Blazer in Wilson mag): 2 double feeds, 1x magazine. I guessed this may be from shooting dirty WWB and did a quick field cleaning/wipe down with CLP (wiped rails, barrel bushing, feed ramp, barrel throat). I then fired the remaining 54 rounds of WWB and Blazer with 0 issues. So, it was probably just a new dirty gun. I'm guessing with a little more break in, shooting dirty may not be such an issue.

All in all, this a great firearm for the price. No complaints so far from this guy. Now I just need to find some night sights for it.

Does anyone know of a place to get replacement night sights that will fit this gun?

Sounds like a nice pistol. The sights on your pistol look like Novak sights. Brownells carry a range of Novak sights. If you do not want to make the switch yourself, you could send it to Novak. They can change out sights and zero it. I think Midway USA also has night sights for sale. If you have a sight pusher tool, you can do it yourself.

Have fun getting your new pistol dirty.

They are novaks, no doubt but the dimensions don't seem to be standard. i.e. the front sight is .215 by my measurements instead of .165/.180/.185 like "usual".

plouffedaddy, sounds like you are talking about the height of the front sight blade. I know Heinie and Novak will sell different height front sights to better tune the pistol point of aim for individual applications. Could always call or e-mail Ruger for additional info on the ruger sights. I would think Ruger would start to carry night sights since they are so popular. The Novak web site might have some additional information on it.

I went to Novak and Rugers respective sights and no luck. I also called ruger and left a voicemail with my question and phone number to no avail...

You might need to give Ruger and Novak a few days to get back with you. If no luck, maybe check with Brownells and see if they might be able to assist in the selection of some sights.

Good luck

Doesn't the SR1911 come with night sights? What are you trying to gain by changing sights?

It does not come with night sights. It comes with novak 3 dots.

I'm still looking. I called Novak and they said they're working on making a set but couldn't tell me when it'd be out...

I would say it was more from being dry than dirty. 1911's like to run wet.

How long did you wait for the gun? I hear Ruger is 30k SR1911's behind

I didn't wait at all. I walked into my local LE dealer (Lawmens, SC) intending to buy another Glock 19 (because you can never have enough of those! ;) ) and the gun was just sitting there behind the glass calling my name. So, I scooped it up before someone else could. :D
