OK heres the problem. With a fully loaded mag inserted into the gun and the slide open, I push the slide stop down and the slide moves forward but the first round only moves about 1/4 inch. Now the slide is in the mid way position. I have seen some people on here tell others to try different mags and to polish the feed ramp. I have tried the factory SA mags and CMC power mags and this happens with both. This doesn't happen all the time but more than 50%, and once with the second round after the first was shot. Ball ammo does fine, never had a problem. Hydra-Shocks and Gold dots are the only ones that do it, Silver tips so far have done fine. I looked at the bullet that gets jammed and can see a grove that was cut into the jacket. The feed ramp has a small gap between it and where the mag goes. Is this normal? Sorry for being so long, I'm just frustrated with it because this was suposed to be a carry gun. Thanks for any advice.

Where does the round stop? Does it hit the feed ramp and stops there? Give us some more details.

There should be about 1/32" of frame visible from the end of the barrel feed ramp to the edge of the frame feed ramp with barrel fully unlocked and in the feed position.

Since this is happening only with the first round, it really sounds like a magazine problem. Most likely, the mag springs are just a little weak. This can be a real problem on extra capacity magazines. 7 round magazines seem to have far fewer feeding problems.

Also, thumbing down the slide stop lever to release the slide sometimes does not allow the slide to get sufficient momentum to chamber a round. I recommend grasping the slide firmly and pulling it all the way to the rear, then let it go.

It is also possible that this particular pistol does not like hollowpoints and will need a little feed ramp work to feed them reliably.

The round stops on the feed ramp. The notch on the bullet itself is from the bottom part of the feed ramp on the barrel. The round never gets out of the mag all the way. Should I just take it to a gunsmith? Is this a common thing?
Also the mags are new and so is the gun. I have about 1000 rnds. through it, mostly ball ammo. I got the CMC mags because of the extra round and I have heard thay are good mags. I don't see how two factory mags and three CMC mags all are bad.

Could be the angle of the rounds as they feed from the magazine, feed lips might need to be altered. Weak springs are fairly common, even in new magazines. I guess it cuts down on customer complaints about how hard it is to load magazines.

With the slide retracted, does the barrel feed ramp end about 1/32" before the frame feed ramp begins? If not, then the barrel feed ramp needs to be altered.

So, if I understand that correctly, the nose of the round gets stuck on the frame feeding ramp, right? If this is the case, get some sand papers or emery cloths (whatever you call those things in US) and start polishing the feed ramp. Do not remove any metal, just polish it until it is mirror-shine. I start with 600 grid and go all the way up to 4000 (I know this is extreme, but I have the papers so why not use them), but usually 1200 or 2000 should be OK.

As I said, do not remove any metal, the idea here is to polish the ramp as much as possible. Do the same on the barrel's feed ramp too, do not alter its shape or anything drastic, just polish.

Stans is right in suggesting mag problems too. Some mag lips are too rough on the inside to slow down the rounds. I had this problem on some of my 9mm mags. All it took was some polishing on the inside of the mag lips to cure the problem.

Let us know if it works.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Got to go find some 4000 grid paper :) .
