Hello Everyone,
I recently acquired a Delta Gold Cup. I have had my eye on one for some time. I got it from a gentlemen who bought it in 1990, with a box of shells. When I bought it from him, he still had five rounds left from the original box. It certainly doesn't look like it has been shot much.
I was surprised by the amount of play between the slide and frame. There is side to side play as well as up and down. I have two custom 1911's in 45 ACP and two Kimbers in 45 ACP. None of them have anywhere near the play that this Colt has. They are all recent manufacture though. Is this common in Colts of the early 90's. I must say I was a little dissappointed. I have fired several factory loads and mostly some handloads. I have not been really impressed with the accuracy. The best so far has been Winchester Silvertips, 175gr, but nothing spectacular. I will take a little of the blame on this one, but I have a S&W 10mm that shoots like a dream and I dare say, a Glock in 10mm that is very accurate.
Bottom line is that I'm considering sending it out for a new barrel and bushing, tighten the frame, ambi safety, new trigger hammer and sear. Anyone have a suggestion for where to send it to. I don't mind spending the money on decent work, but looking to put no more than 1K more into it. Thanks for your comments.
