I purchased my first 1911 a few weeks ago and was finally able to shoot it yesterday. I have been lurking on this forum for a couple of months so I figured I needed to let you all know how it went. First, here is the required pictures. ;o)

When I first received my Rock I stripped it, cleaned all of the goo off of it, and lubed it up real good. Yesterday I ran about 85 rounds of Remington UMC 230 gr. ball ammo first without any issues. Then I ran a few mags of that same ammo mixed with Federal 230 gr. Hydra-shok JHP. It still performed flawlessly. I followed that up with a couple of mags with the straight JHP's. It performed perfectly. I used a combination of the act mag that came with the gun, two Chip McCormick 8 round mags, and two Mec-Gar 7 round mags. They all fed perfectly. The only issue I have is the ACT mag is little tight at the top of the magwell and doesn't always drop out freely.

I was shooting from 5 to 15 yards and could usually get 3" or better groups not including the occasional stray shot from operator inexperience. I have other pistols, but a few months ago I decided it was time to get a 1911. I am very pleased with the RIA and am very glad I found this forum to speed my learning curve.

So, chalk me up as a very satisfied Rock owner who has now put 120 rounds through his new toy and can't wait to do it again. I might need to start looking for a CS....... :)

Welcome , and I too own 7 different Rock's. Over all I own 27 different 1911's of various makes, from Wilson to Ed Brown. The Rock's are my favorite's. You'll find that they will start to multiply. Too me, it's a good addiction. My wife on the other hand seems to feel different. lol! Many very informed men and women out here. I have sent just one of my Rock's off to Armscor and had Arnel put his magic touch to it. It was my officers model, and had him change and install many different things. Plus I had him put 30 lpi on the front strap. Man did that make a difference!! That pistol seems to be glued to my hand when firing it. And it looks beautiful also. Welcome again and have fun with your new firearm, and it looks fantastic!!!

That sounds like quite a collection you have! Maybe I'll be able to get there in a few years. Thanks for the warm welcome, and more importantly, thanks for your service to our country. If it wasn't for men like you (and women) we might not be able to talk about our gun collections.
