Happy Holidays to All!,

I have a 1918 dated US 1911 that needs a replacement barrel to be near mint, I shoot this pistol so it's not a display piece. Not having full background knowledge on the 1911 series, the barrel hood is marked with a P, and an H?, can someone fill me in?, as well what referenc book would one get to become educated on the US 1911?

Many Thanks!

Sincerely,
argonaut1

“Collectors Guide to Colt .45 Service Pistols, Models of 1911 and 1911A1” the revised 3rd edition 2003 By Charles W. Clawson. This book is great, you can get a copy through www.coolgunsite.com . That barrel will cost you big bucks for a near mint condition one, if you can find one. The H P (or P H) barrels were used from about sn 25,000 - about 120,000. The P H with the P over the H when the barrel is pointed upward was found from about 110,000 - about 425,000. The last pristine P H barrel I saw sold for over $200.

argonaut1,

Your 1911 is a Colt and not a Remington-UMC, correct?
They had different markings.
