Ok, now that I have a Colt WW-1 Repro...does anyone make a "Repro" .45 magazine 1/2 blued with it's own lanyard loop 'ala 1911 WW-1 Style?
If not...who can make a run for us..and let's go into business together!

Yep. Metalform...Welded base with lanyard loop. Save yourself a few headaches and specify 7-rounders. Not sure if they're half-blued though. Likely one solid finish.

IIRC, the repro's are copied of off the Black Army, which didn't come with the looped magazines. If that matters to you.

I have one of the Colt WWI repos. I orderd two of the magazines from Metalform with the lanyard loops on the base. Looks very cool with the gun. The magazines are all one color, blue. I think they had stopped issuing Layyard loop mags by the period this pistol is suposed to be from (1918 or so). However, I bet ther were still several hundred thousand running around with the loops in service so it would still be correct to use one. Once again, It looks really cool with the repo.
As another thought, I bought an extra one to stick in my other .45's when I needed a tempoary lanyard loop on a pistol that did not have one on the mainspring housing. I think the magazine catch is plenty strong to retain the weight of the pistol if I wree to drop it on its lanyard.
just my 2 cents,

FWIW, the lanyard loop on the magazine wasn't intended to heep the gun secured. It was intended to tie the magazine to the rider...or to the gun.

Want a half-blued mag? Take it apart and wash the mag body with soap and water. Dip the top 1/3 of the mag in any liquid rust remover containing phosphoric acid - presto, a half-blued mag.

There have been a few 2-tone mags on ebay that were clearly Metalforms with the naval jelly treatment.

I think dipping the whole mag in a phosphoric acid bath (1/2 only) would encourage inside mag body rusting.
Better option might be masking tape on the outside where you don't want the finsih removed...and carefully brish or wipe the blue-removing solution where you want a bare metal finish. That way you can control the amount of removal.
On further review...I'll probably leave them alone as they come from Metalform. They'll look cool enough on their own.

Phosphoric acid will not promote rust if you rinse and dry afterwards and apply oil .

One of the commercial formulations of phosphoric acid is called Ospho, and it's purpose is the same as Naval Jelly ... to attack existing rust and stabilize it prior to painting.
