It's been a while since I posted about it, but there was nothing to report until now. It's been gone since 10/5 (lost in Nashville TN) and we have officially given up hope that it will ever be found.
FedEx got our collective hopes up last week by telling us that they had a picture of the frame in their overgoods(?) (lost & found, I presume) but were tracking down where it went after that. Now they tell us that the photo wasn't of the actual gun, it was a pic that someone sent them to show them what it looks like. Sounds fishy as hell to me.
Anyway, since it was shipped by Wilson Combat, they have agreed with me that the loss of an early 70 series Colt frame is a loss of the entire pistol and will be treated as such. While they can't replace it physically or emotionally (it belonged to my late father) they are making amends as best they can. I now have a build order in for a Wilson Combat CQB. It's not my Colt, but under the circumstances, I thank WC for trying their best to "make it as right as possible", and I can't publicly say what I want to FedEx.

So, if anyone comes across a Colt Combat Commander frame with S/N 70BS22738, please contact me as I would really like to have it back. I suspect it's probably in a landfill by now, though. :(

I am very sorry about the loss of your Colt frame. Normally I would be congratulating on the new Wilson Combat but this is a terrible loss. Something owned by your dad can never be replaced. I can't imagine how you feel. I hope everything works out. Take care.

Ditto.....

You have my sincerest condolences as well.

Just reading this made me sick at heart.

Yes, that sucks dude. But, they like to shoot 1 out of every 4 packages into a black hole...

Wow, I know this may sound cheap............but I really do feel for you. Not only was it a Colt frame, but it was your fathers as well.

Never give up hope, one day the black hole may unexpectantly cough it up.

I agree that, under the circumstances, Wilson seems to be doing the best they can to correct that which cannot be fully corrected.

As for FedEx ... 'nuff said.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. Here's our "resolution", if I may. I now have a Wilson CQB, which was obtained under these circumstances: When I shipped the frame to them I insured it for $1k. I don't know if they even insured it when they sent it back, but since I had they basically gave me a $1k discount off whatever I wanted. I'm a dealer for them anyway so that discount off dealer cost was pretty attractive. Not to mention the fact that I had them change a couple of things on it (the up side of a custom built pistol).
So, while I still miss my Colt (and always will), at least I have several other guns of my father's that I can pass on to my son. And I thank Wilson Combat for doing their best to set it right. Besides, as wichaka said, it may still turn up someday.
