Greetings, I have a Ithaca I think 43 model. I got it as a basket case that somebody had nickled and put Colt Commercial Grip on...I "restored" it, mainly because it was something to do. I had the nickle stripped, found a HS Barrel, the right grips, et cetera. Neat, not that it is valuable. However I cannot get the grip safety to function. It just doesn't work. I replaced the leaf spring, and that didn't do it, so I am at a loss as to what might not be working? Mainspring? Hammer Strut could be worn? Any Ideas....

Thanks.

What do you mean "does not work"?

If the grip safety does not work, means the pistol fires with the grip safety released, then you have to make sure that the tongue of the safety goes behind the trigger, when the safety is released and that it is long enough to block the rearward travel of the trigger. If it does not go to the proper position, you have to find out why. If it is short, then you have to elongate it somewhat, the easiest way is to hammer it a bit with your blows pushing the metal towards the tongue's front end.

I hope this makes sense.

I know this may sound like a silly question, but... did the grip safety function properly before the nickel was stripped, gun was refinished and re-assembled? Or did you check it then? Are you sure all the parts are assembled correctly now?
