Hey!
This is my first post. :D
I just though I would let you all know that yesterday, September 4th, I put it on lay-a-way. :) I will be starting my seasonal job in a couple of weeks, so I should have it out in no time.
I was wondering if someone could tell me what to expect. Do any of you have any tips? Tricks?
Is it easy to disassemble, and reassemble the handgun?
Thanks,
kc

After reading a number of positive posts about the GI on various gun forums, i got one several months ago. I'm very pleased with mine. I really didn't need to do anything to it, but I did anyway. I kept it's GI "flavor" while improving the inner works. I replaced the stock SA extractor with a Wilson "Bulletproof"-an easy job. I replaced the Ti firing pin with an Ed Brown SS FP & FP stop, and a Wolff extra power FP spring (real easy job). Then I replaced the "guts" of the ILS system with standard mainspring assembly parts and a 20# Wolff mainspring (a little more trouble than the former replacements). Lastly I replaced the stock sear spring with one from Nowlin (better leave that one to a 'smith). These changes gave me a very nice 4 lb. trigger pull. You can read about disassembly in your owner's manual or on the 1911 forums. It's easy to perform the basic field strip- complete disassembly is usually not necessary and is more difficult. Enjoy your new pistol. :p WB

:D I always likes the looks of the 1911, but I thought that I would not be able to hit the side of the barn with it. When I was in the Army back in the early 60`s I didn`t even qualify with it. I was an expert with the M1, and the good old BAR. Well after much thought, and $$$ burning a hole in my pocket, I purchased a Custom Loaded 1911-1. After the 14 day wait period I went to the range, and WOW !!!! I don`t think that I`m a good shot but at 25 yards, I was able to hit the man size target in the upper chest, and torso, not bad for the first time with a pistol...I`m kind of proud of my new 1911, I`m in Love...I should have done this YEARS ago...So far I have gone through 500 rounds with it and it has worked Just fine, no problems. I was using 230 grain
ball. Do any of you out there, have any suggestions, I`d be happy to learn..
Thank You...

danny- sounds like you're doing great with your new pistol. Make sure you keep it properly lubricated. You might also try some of the things in my previous post, if for example you want a little lighter trigger pull. One other area you might want to think about is to upgrade the factory mags with some 7 round Wilsons, CMC's, or Metalforms. Enjoy yourself! :)

i just got a 1911 wwII yesterday(sept. 11) I'm pretty happy with it, i was really wanting the mil-spec because i know how well it performs from shooting my buddies, but i found the GI at a pretty good price. the first 14 shots were rough, it jammed a couple times, but i think it was the wolf ammo(i know, thats my fault) but other than that i still out shot my buddy and his match grade mil-spec.
does anyone have and advice on what upgrades would help the performance and accuracy but still not kill the check book? thanks
keep shootin

I have 2 of em and they are flawless, use good mags, clean and oil,and shoot lots!I did polish the feedramp and breechface on both of mine, only because of routine.Get yourself a good 1911 manual,i bought the wilson manual and its cheap and very helpful but im sure theres better. My gis tend to like chip mcormick mags the best,my wilsons give me issues.Get to know your gun one on one,you will love it.

I just bought one and have put about 100 rounds through it. It is a nice gun, hasn't had any malfunctions. My only complaint it the trigger it is heavy and I don't really like it. I don't want to modify the gun, but if I want to be accurate with it I might have to get a trigger job.

The triggers are like day and nite with these pistols i guess, both of mine came with excellent triggers.Very little creep and break i guess around 5 pounds crisp.Id like to see just what the pull is though.Either way there plenty good enough for defense.

For they money, the GI-45 is hard to beat IMO.
Have had mine about six months now and have no complaints whatsoever.
I did change a few parts to make it appear a little more authentic.

Hey OD, where did you find the original USGI thumb safety? I've been looking all over for one. Did you find someone who has these stashed? Are you going to change out the hammer to a USGI type? I'm in the process now of gathering all the parts to make my Springfield WWII GI look more like the original GI.

Hi Terry,
I have a wheeler-dealer friend in Texas who hits some of the bigger shows and he comes across them occasionally (no sir, he doesn't have any at this time ;) ). The hammer in the picture is from a Colt 1991A1 which looks similar to the USGI-Ithaca hammer.

Just bought an OD green Mil Spec Springfield. Love everything about it with one exception, the sights. I upgraded them to a set of Kings Hard Ball sights. Now it's perfect. I love the plain Jane about the gun. I have a couple of 1911' s, but this one follows me like a faithful dog, always there. It's a sooter as well, grouping 230 JHP's around two inches at tenty five yards if I do my part.

Hello OD,
I've seen some pics of norinco's with the small thumb safety. I may call Marstar today and order one. Don't know if it will fit my springer, but at the low cost for there parts its not like its a big investment. Heck, if it wont fit it'll just give me a reason to find a rinco.
