Howdy to All,
I am requesting opinions on what brand/s would be considered for a thumb safety and possibly a sear. I am looking for non-MIM or cast and best quality and durability. I am going to try to fix a previously threaded problem with the safety and just wondering about the sear in case! Thanks for your assistance Gentlemen.

You don't have many choices in thumb safeties if you exclude both MIM and cast parts. The Wilson and Brown are cast, and are nonetheless very good parts.

AFAIK, SVI is the only maker of a billet thumb safety, but it's pricey (retail >$90 for the ambi version).

OTOH, many good sears are available from SVI, Evolution Gun Works, Cylinder & Slide and others.

That seems less than optimal but I do believe your recommendations are good choices, nonetheless. Thanks you sir.

Wilson safeties seem to be one of the best contoured on the market.

For a sear..........try Nowlins Pro-Match.........very hard to beat, and its solid barstock steel.

Thank you warmrain and wichaka. I'll try the safety first and hopefully it will be oversized enough to get it to good engagement. If that won't do it, I quess the sear is the next area to think about.
Can anyone point me to a picture or drawing of the safety engagement lug and possibly it's relation to the sear. Can't find it in Kuhnhausen. Tuner advised that novice/amateurs can get the adjustment wrong, by doing the wrong surface!

I do not have such a drawing right now, but if before you start working on the new parts, you take the grip safety off your pistol, and reassemble it without the grip safety, you can watch the grip safety as it works inside the gun. There are two areas you have to work on. The one which blocks the sear when the safety is on, and possible the one which allows the sear to move, when the safety is in the off position. Identify those two areas on the new safety and start working a little bit at a time. Remember, removing metal is easy, putting it back is next to impossible.

Sorry my first reply didn't take.
John thank you for the tip on fitting the safety without the grip safety. Works like a charm. It showed just how far off the safety was from the sear. I beat the heck out of a replacement I had without luck. Improper tools and patience, maybe. When I order a new one that trick should do the job.
OD* Thank you for the drawing. It helped alot, alas........
Take care Gentlemen.

Oh well, sorry it didn't work out. If it's any consolation, I spend about 30 minutes today, trying to make a safety on an airsoft gun to act as it should, didn't make it until I removed the grip safety and checked inside. Old trick, very useful.

Better luck next time.

Well received an Ed Brown tactical safety. Installed it, and it seems to function correctly. The flange? is not as thick as the original. Hope it is not a problem. Hurray! Thanks for the help guys!
