Plunger tube

While I've replaced a few plunger tubes that fell off or weren't staked in properly I've never had to take one off. How do I remove it with out screwing up the frame?

One method that I have used and had work, is to hold the frame in a vise (preferably with a set of frame hold plates) run a piece of wire through the plunger tube, twist the ends and pull with a pair of pliers.
