I am new to the group.

I just picked up a Commander XSE. Put 100 rounds through it. Feels good and shots great. I"m new to 1911's put am impressed with the set up. Dovetailed sights, beavertail safety, and front strap has relief already formed.

Right out of the box I had tight groups.

I'm in the market for a Commander XSE also. Did you chose your Commander from among only Colt brand medium sized 1911 45acps or did you also consider other brands of Commander sized 1911's ?

I'm looking at SA Champions and the S&W "Commander" sized scandium 1911's along with the Colt Commander.

If you chose from only Colt, why the XSE and not the other Commander?

Thanks for any of your input to help in my choice.

I looked around at a number of makes and models. I looked at SA, Kimbers, Para, etc. I chose the Colt XSE for a number of factors. Firstly, several times I was told by guys at different gun shops that Colts hold their value better then some other manufacturers. I bought it to shoot, but it still an investment. Secondly, I was told Colt had some problems in the 80's with quality and is now making an effort to re-establish a good name. The slides are tight and trigger mechanism is good. Lastly, the Colt XSE I bought had all themodifications I would do completed. The front strap had a relief milled out on it for my middle finger. In addition, it came with a beavertail safety, upgraded trigger and hammer, and dovetailed sights. I almost bought the GI model but this was $100 more. Seemed like a good deal.

Thanks brainiac.

Your logic on the XSE Commander is along the same lines as mine. Refering to 1980's Colt issues, I bought a nib Colt 1911 Govt 9mm in the early 80's and the gun was a true "jam-o-matic". I had had a Browning HP (9mm) and a Colt Commander (45acp) and was very pleased with both. I thought that having a Colt Govt 1911 in 9mm would be the best of both guns. Man was I wrong. I swore off Colts forever at that time.

I am hearing the same things as you and others about Colt in this century. Colt is back and they are NOT the Colt of the 80's or 90's, thank goodness.

I always shoot my guns whenever the mood strikes and I don't own any safe queens ( at least at this time ), so having a Colt XSE Commander that is both a solid shooter AND hold it's value is very attractive to me.

Thanks for your evaluation of your Commander purchase.

Good Shooting to you.
