I have a 1912 Cav holster with an elaborate tie down strap. Lots of loops and buckles on it. Does anyone know how the strap was to be used? Also the back of the holster has two loops for the tie down and I wonder what the purpose of two loops was for. Thanks in advance.

The strap that goes through a loop on the back of the holster is a leg or thigh strap to keep the holster in place on the trooper. There should only be one buckle used to fasten the leg strap. The two loops on the back of the holster give some adjustment to the location of the leg strap.
