model 1911 serial # question

I recently picked up a 1911 in original condition 362xxx the last digit is a one or a bar I don't know for sure this one is quite a bit larger than the other numerals could someone advise me about this will add pic's when I figure out the camera thanks

It is most likely a 1918 Colt 1911, that someone may have added the additional digit to alter or change the original serial number, it has been pretty common, since a doughboy may have lifted the weapon upon his departure from duty and worrying about the weapon being traced or it could have been applied by a former owner for the same reason (to alter the sn#). Pictures would be more helpful in determining what you have.
