I have been considering several brand and models of "modest" priced .45s and have reviewed numerous posts trying to make an informed decision. After all was said and done, I brought home a RIA 1911 A1 and couldn't be happier. I've owned Taurus, Ruger, FEG and Glock 45's but this one is definately a KEEPER! Finish and fit a quite good but most important- NO FAILURES TO FUNCTION. I ran Remington 230 gr ball, Federal 230 gr ball, Winchester (reported prone to jam) 230 gr ball in the "white box" and finally Winchester 230 gr JHP in the "white box". It ate it all!! Accuaracy is good given the miniscule GI sights. About 3" at 10 yds. The only thing I would change would be either my grip or add a beavertail and trigger. It does like to nip the fat meat if you ain't careful. My son has a Springfield Ultra Compact and says he gona ditch it for a RIA. Thank you all for your honest reviews of this product. You have certainly helped me make the right choice. Best Regards.

Good on Ya! I bought a Charles Daly Enhanced Field Grade and could not be more pleased. (I think they are both made by Armscor). In fact I am working a trade/sale and plan to divest myself of my Colt Gold Cup. The CD does all I could ask and more for a lot less money. Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

Thanks for the comments Folks. What you say is true but it appears it is too late. As it stands I will be trading it for the new S&W Model 22 in .45 ACP. As much as I value you all’s counsel I have wanted a square but, fixed sight, blue steel S&W with the under lug barrel in .45 for almost 50 years. Then I wanted it as a duty weapon but even though those days are behind me I figure “better late than never”. Hopefully, I will have it soon.
Thanks, again.

Hi, how much are they asking for the new model 22? I was looking around and it is so new there aren't any list prices avail. Unfortunatly I live in CA which means that revolver won't be available until submitted and tested and put on a list then able to be sold and bought by consumers. Yeah, just more beaurocracy. So I may not even be able to get one until mid to late next year! I was lucky I got the model 625jm but I much prefer that model 22. have fun with that one and get lots of moon clips. brownells sells a really nice cartridge moon clip loader.

Hi Al,
There are a couple of people who had them for sale on the S&W Forum ( http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/ ). Just scroll down to “Classifieds” . One man had then for $700 shipped and another for $749 plus $25 shipping. Also if you scroll back up to “S&Ws 1945 to Present” there are some posts on it. One has to do with an estimate on when California may approve.
Thanks for the tip on the non 1911 Forum. Also, I appreciate the tip on the Brownell tool. I often carried a 1917 Model S&W in Viet Nam so I had plenty of half moon clips. I, later, certified with one in LE and got the full moon clips but removing the empties is a real pain.
Best wishes for getting one of the Model 22s. At the risk of sounding patronizing or sarcastic I really feel for you that leave in California. It is such a beautiful state but the Liberals have fowled it as they do everything they become associated with. I was out there is August for my Daughter’s wedding and I stopped in a gunshop and could hardly believe the charges for getting a gun legally shipped in. I really hope you are not in San Francisco with that new brainless anti-gun law. To think I spent 23 years in the Air Force to prevent guys like Khrushchev and Mao Tse Tung from doing this sort of thing to us only to have people who call themselves Americans doing it to us. Keep up the good fight Al and the very best to you.
Vaya Con Dios, Amigo,

Hi, thanks so much for the kind words and empathy and great information and serving our country in VietNam, happy Veterans Day. Ironically I moved from Alaska of all places and ended up in southern CA. Anyway here is the demooning tool link from Brownells, it is very handy, better than those plastic monstrosities. simple and elegant and pretty affordable, fits well in a range bag or pocket. I wish I could make one myself though if I had the know how. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6727&title=MOON+CLIP+STRIPPER

Thanks Al,
That is exactly the tool I have been looking for. A fellow at our club made one himself and it works beautifully. I am not handy in that regard so I can really use the one from Brownell’s. Thanks for the kind words on Veterans’ Day but it was my buddies that did not come back or spent a lot of time in the Hanoi Hilton that really sacrificed. My contribution was nominal but I accept your thanks on behalf of all who served.
