I finally picked up my WW I repro on 11/05/2005. It has to be the most beautiful 1911 I have ever handled. Blueing #1, grips are nicer than an old 1918 I used to own, that one had the slabs of walnut that it came with. Got 2 in. groups at 21 ft offhand. Put all rounds inside the 5 ring on a police qualification target at 25 yds. Les Baer, EAT YOR HEART OUT. I have to shoot and carry this weapon, I am almost 50, and do not believe in keeping it in a glass case. I rather enjoy this fine weapon before I am off to the here-after. Buy the way, it digests hollow points with NO PROBLEM. Slide to frame fit is as tight as a Les. I'll submitt pics as soon as I get a digital camera.

Sounds great. I like Colt's and am happy to hear they have put some quality back in the guns.

I am going to e-mail colt. If they made production guns the same way they made my weapon, they would put Les baer,Wilson and Kimber out of business.

I do have to mention, I already love my pistol. Good old fashioned hand work. The only thing is, my 1918 original had a more squarish recess on the slide underneath the barrel. If Colt would machine it like this, it would be more accurate. Also, my 1918 bushing was thin metal. I am glad they pay attention to machining the bushing to barrel fit to close specs, and making the bushing beefier than the original. Also, my 1918 original shot 3 ft. groups, compared to what I get out of this fine weapon.

The 1911 has evolved in so many wonderful ways. The original design was made so as to be field reliable. Today we have so many great choices in 1911's from inexpensive production, semi-custom, custom and the really wild ones. Carbon steel, stainless, titanium, tupperware, aluminum, scandium.....even Airsoft..........wow. It's a good time to be living for the 1911 fans!
I wish I knew someone local that had one of those I could look at or better yet go shoot!

If Colt had kept building them as well as they did in the early 60's they wouldn't have had to lose so much to the other makers. Springfield and Kimber have made the biggest impact on Colt sales. The semi-custom makers like Baer, RRA, Wilson, Nighthawk will always have business. Some of them don't really produce that many guns each year.
