Hi Pointblank. Your revolver sure looks good. I have a 1937 Brazilian contract M1917 w/ 5.5" barrel. Nice patina and still very tight...Pappy

If that revolver had the thicker barrel of a Model 19 and the ramped front sight, it would be a killer (literally)!

You are right! The Smith would look great with a full length barrel!

I love that gun, can't wait until they release it in .45 Colt.
Was happy to see S&W listened to their customers.

No, I do not mean a full-length under-barrel ejector shroud, I mean a thicker barrel per se, this on starts thicker near the frame and becomes smaller towards the front. I do not know how this style of barrel is called, I think tappered, but I prefer the thickness to be the same at the rear of the barrel as well as the front.
The existing ejector shroud if fine with me, I do not like the 686 style, where the shroud has the same length as the barrel, I think it makes the gun more chunky, so uglier.
But even the ramped front sight would improve the looks of this gun. And it appears to have the length I like, 3" barrel. Perfect, just perfect!

Pointblank,
CDNN has some of the original Thunder Ranch Smiths with the "bling-bling" side plates for $600.

John, I know what you mean. I bought the new 620 L-Frame .357 Magnum because it has a bull barrel, red ramp, but no full-length ejector shroud.. It's a fine revolver..

The S&W revolvers in 45acp are fun to shoot. I enjoy mine when I get a chance to take it out.

That's a beautiful old revolver. It's amazing what you can find lightly-used Smiths going for in local gunshops. I think a lot of people see revolvers as 'out of style' or something, which is fine with me, I get them cheaper that way.:D

What is the cost of one of these new model 22?s I noticed the Thunder Ranch logo so probably pretty spendy. It is nice though, I do prefer the blue over the brushed stainless or whatever they call it these days.

thanks Pointblank,
It was my Grandpa's, revolver that I inherited with his passing in '92. I was always very fond of the gun and was lucky enough to get my hands on it.
I agree a good revolver for me will never go out of style!!

I called my favorite local gunshop today about the Model 22. He said it would go for $669 which isn't bad. He's going to call me back when he locates one for me.

It's a lot of fun firing double action with my acp revolver. As much fun as a 1911 but in a different way.

Is it possible to find a Colt New Service Shooting Master in .45 (Long Colt) or .45 ACP in excellent condition? If so, how?
Best,

Yes it is. They have gotten very pricy though. Look in Gun List. Try Google also.

There are three Thunder Ranch 22s on Gunbroker, right now. I've seen prices quoted in the $625-$725 range, but some of those included shipping and transfer, while others didn't. I'd think anything under $700, out the door, would be a pretty good deal.

Ok, my 22 came in and I just picked it up. It cost me $699. It's a very nice reproduction of the Smith & Wesson Model 1950 Army. It has very nice African Cocobolo grips with the Thunder Ranch logo on the grip where the S&W medallion normally would be. There is nothing on the gun that says Thunder Ranch, unlike that gaudy piece of gold on the Model 21 44. Special. I will probably shoot it tomorrow and will report back. I think this baby may buck a little so I may endup putting Pachmayrs on it. Other than that, a real sweet looking revolver.

Hello everybody. I'm the newest 'newbie' to this site. I'm drooling! The M-22 has been of my dream guns for about 30+ years. The only one I ever saw in the 'flesh' was about 14 or so years ago. Guy shooting next to me the local range had one he purchased new in the mid 60s just before it and the other 'forgotten' Smiths between the M-19 and 27 were discontinued. 1966 if memory serves. Anyway, I've looked for years to find a M26 but to no avail. I currently own a 25-2 with a 6.5" barrel which I don't shoot a whole lot anymore. It's mostly for taking out of the box, admiring, wiping down and putting back in the safe. Also have a superb M625-2 I traded an old unfired, pristeen M-28 for. To top it all off, just bought a Kimber Custom ll yesterday because...well...it was there and I had the $$$$. So anyway, the search for the elusive M-26 continues. God bless and give his favor to you all.
