I am looking at a used Colt Series 70 MKIV. The gun appears to be 85% condition. The finish is a bit worn from sitting in a leather holster. I was wondering what a fair price should be? Can anyone help me.

The prices seem to be different across the country. I purchased a Series 70 Liteweight Commander in the ColtGuard (Nickel) in Tucson Arizona for $400.00 from a dealer. Now to be fair the pistol was filthy and the slide hold open was broken. It did have a beveled mag well, Wilson extended thumb safety, beaver tail grip safety, Millet sights, Pachmeyer grips and one original mag. I purchased a matching Wilson extended slide release for $23.00, spent about 3-4 hours on a total disassembly and scrubbing, ( It was so dirty I did not know the sights had the white outlines until well into the cleaning) and I now have a Pony Pistol that I am proud of and that has become my daily companion.

The Blue Book says for a Series 70 Mark IV:
Blued:
90% - $425
80% - $350
Nickle:
90% - $450
80% - $350

With that wear on it there is no collector value to run the price up so if you do pick it up, I hope you get a good deal on it. It's still a Colt and lots of people buy them just for a base gun for a custom project.

With Colt's as with all other firearms % of condition is a hard thing to judge. One persons 80% is someone elses 85% or maybe 70%. A good Series 70 .45 with only minor holster wear should be worth $500 anywhere, if being in a holster has caused pitting then maybe not. I seldom see a real clean one going at less than $650-$750 at the shows here in PA. Oddly there seem to be more nice clean ones for sale than ones with wear on them, unless you run into ex-police guns and even those are usually $450-$550 depending on condition.

Hawkmoon: Check your price under blued-90% If you find any for $4.25, I would love to buy a few dozen. LOL LOL

As someone else has pointed out price will vary w/geography. The blue book is only a guide and alot of COLTS are going for more. I woiuld check the www gun sites and look for similar guns in your area/US and see what their are going for/asking.
i feel that if the wear (not abuse/neglect) is honest then i would go with a blue book value, but again depending on your area and what available on the www.

I don't think you can get one for $450, but you could get lucky. I agree more with $500 to $550, and this is going up every day, since the 70 is the last of the real Colts.
