I am helping a friend build up a 1911 to his specs, one of which is a cone type compensator with a reverse recoil spring plug and full length guide rod. Now he has expressed interest in installing a Lasermax guide rod laser. He does not like the lasergrips, so that is not an option.

My question is can the lasermax unit be used with a reverse plug? Boring out the plug to the proper diameter should not be an issue. Also, their site states they can't guarantee alignment on any comped pistols. Anybody had any experience with using them in a comp equipped full size 1911?

I have a LM guide rod laser in a G21.

The fact that it's a FLGR would require the use of a FLGR bushing.

I used to have a Kimber stainless Pro; which has a cone type/bull barrel with a reverse plug. I don't see any reason why a LM guide rod laser wouldn't work on it, and the configuration seems to be the same as your friends pistol w/o the compensator.

That said; I'd give Laser Max a call and find out about their compensator warning before I'd shell out the $300.00 plus for one, and then it either not work right or be damaged in a situatation they warned about, and probably wouldn't warrant.

Take care,

Rick
