I know this probably goes against the grain with everyone wanting to add extra bells and whistles to their pistols, but does anyone know where I might be able to find a plain old Colt Nickel slide release, thumb safety and grip safety for my 70 series Commander? I would like to put it back like it was when new and the stainless just does not look right. If you need to see the difference I posted pictures here under the heading "New Member Hello" by Ariz Commander

Howdy and welcome aboard!
Wrong! Not everybody wants fancy doo-dads on their guns. I won't allow that stuff in the yard, much less on one of my pistols. :p
On the nickeled parts...I'm assuming that your gun is one of the electroless nickel Colts.(ColtGaurd) If so...I guess your best bet is to start gatherin' up a list of pistolsmiths and runnin' up a phone bill. There are some take-off parts out there...It's findin'em that gets tedious. The alternative would be to
"customize" it a little with blued parts...which will be much more common and easier to find. Some guys find the contrast attractive. Of course, to make it look right, you'll need to replace the grip safety and mainspring housing...and possibly the trigger and mag catch with blued parts too. If your goal is to restore the gun to original/issue condition, that won't do...but it's a thought.
Luck!

But beware of the Alaskan Reddogg...Caveat Emptor applies in full force.

Colt's electroless nickle and Coltgaurd are two totally different finishes. Coltgaurd has a smooth shiny look that more resembles stainless from a distance or at first glance. Coltgaurd was only offered through the Colt Custom Shop and was applied to a very limited number of GM's, GC's and CC's all of which were Series 70's.
