If you purchased a new 10MM could you get a 45 slide and barrel and put it on that frame also?

:wc: to the forum.
The new Delta 10mm (which is what I believe you are speaking of) is built on a 1911 platform, however there are quite a few differences between a 10mm and a 45cal 1911.
While what you suggest is technically possible it would be a monumental undertaking to have it reliable. It would be much more practical (and probably cheaper) to simply buy 2 pistols.
That said, it would be practical to fit a 40cal barrel, magazine and recoil assembly to a Delta, if that is of any interest to you.

DuckRyder, is it really that hard? Both the 10mm and .45 Auto frames would use the same ejector, I believe. Would there be a frame ramp issue?

I believe the Delta uses a Super .38 ramp. Many who have built them using non-ramped .45 frames report its very hit and miss for reliability.
I'll try to dig mine out tomorrow and verify that my memory is correct.

Daayyyng!! Colt Delta! haven't heard that name since early 90's gun rags!
Thought them and those old "Double Eagles" had all been turned into Kia's by now! :lm:

Guess I have fallen behind! The quote of The late Col. Cooper comes to mind with both the 10mm and DA 1911,, "the answer to a question that's never been asked". I am aware he was an early proponent of 10mm.

I have a Delta Gold Cup. I loooove the 10mm. As for 40 cal I've heard of feeding problems for them with non-ramped barrels. I'm building a 40/10 commander sized 1911 now but I was talked into using ramped barrels.

I believe the actual quote from the late Col. Cooper was "It's the solution to a non-existent problem", and he was referring to a number of captured German DA semi-autos (mostly P-38s), that he was testing in Quantico, shortly after the war.

I also thought there was also a quote by Cooper where he mentioned the 10mm did not take off because not enough people were interested in an auto pistol that could hit hard at 70-100 yards.

I did a .45 conversion top end for my Delta Elite. All I had to have done was have the ejector slot on the .45 slide milled to accept the wider one on the Delta Elite.
Worked just fine but later I bought a .45 1991 to keep things simpler.

Trouble was, it hit pretty hard on the other end, too :) .

I finally had a chance to get the Delta (10mm), O1070XSE (.45ACP) and O2991 (Super .38 ACP) out of the safe and compare.
The frame ramp on the Delta is both narrower and shallower than the .45. It appears identical to the O2991 Super .38.
The Delta's ejector is both taller and wider than the .45's. The .45 slide will not go on the Delta frame because of this, again the Delta appears substantially similar to the Super .38.
Installing the .45 barrel (which has a nearly perfect 1/32 step on the .45 frame) on the Delta frame results in a step of about 7/64.
While you might be able to make it work, in my opinion it is going to be a non-trivial matter. ;)

Sounds like a handful, unless someone goes to the trouble of cutting the frame for a ramped barrel - which isn't exactly easy, either! And you'd still need to have two unpinned ejectors...

I has my smith install a Kart 40 S&W barrel ( non-ramp) in my Delta Elite . I use Tripp Cobra mags; the original Colt factory mags and Mecgar mags , all in 10mm , and have had no functioning problems with the 40 rounds.

Hi jacII:
You described a project that has been running around in my hollow head for a long time, the 10mm/40S&W combo. What all did that envolve? Whear did you acquire the Kart bbl? Did you do the work involved yourself? I have the Delta Elete, but, need to gather up the other stuff, and the info. to do the job.
Thanks.
