After seeing another Colt that had been finished in Royal Blue I fell in love with it, so I took the plunge. At first I sent in my Series 70 Repro to get the entire gun refinished and a mild dehorning. When it came back it looked so good I couldn't help buy send in the slide off my Combat Elite to get it done as well.

Submitted for your approval.................

I just couldn't capture the SHINE on the CE the way I did on the 70 Repro. I am still learning about the camera, it is WAY better than I am.........Just like my Colt's are!

Did the Colt Custom Shop do that? If so, how much did they charge? What was the turnaround time? Thanks in advance, I love the looks of that Colt Series 70.

As soon as I hit "POST" I remembered that I should have put more information in.

Yes, the Colt Custom shop did the work for me. I just got the CE slide back last week. It was gone about 2 1/2 months and cost me $115.

Now you are taxing me on the Series 70 as that was done almost a year ago. It was $225 for the frame and slide to be refinished. The dehorning was only $55 (because it was going to be refinished). Shipping was $30 for a total of $310. The turn around on that was a bit quicker as it was before the recall.

Thank you for all of the compliments. For what it is worth and in case anybody was wondering, both of thses are shooters. They are too pretty NOT to shoot!!!

Wow, that is the spitting image of my dad's first run series 80, the only difference are the sights.

That's a family treasure IMO........

Great job Mhanis! I'm pretty much a basic guy, but have always liked the Royal Blue, and you may have kicked me off the fence about getting a couple of mine done. As one of my great nephews says, "SWEEEEET!".

Mhanis,

Those are gorgeous! Reminds me (fondly) of the Colts I had in the early to mid 1970s.

That really makes me want to send my Series 80 Stainless in and have it done...

I don't see anywhere on their website that lists customization prices and what they can do, other than engraving... is engraving really that big of a seller for them in comparison to other custom orders?

Now that they have finally updated their website, they are only about 10 years behind in web design.

But your 1911s look great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big, I know how you feel. This is the image I initially saw that made me say the same thing and then send in my Series 70.........

Thank you again to everybody for the kind words. On the one hand $300 is a lot of money to spend on a $700-$800 gun to have it refinished.........BUT LOOK AT IT!!!!!! :eb: :D

Not only can Colt's out finish any steel surface compared to competitors, their bluing is still the best. That Royal Blue looks so very nice on your 70 Series Repro and the Combat's slide. The mild dehorn is always a nice touch as well. With as highly polished as the surfaces need to be for the Royal Blue, it is so nice to see how they achieve this without the usual over done rounding of edges that lesser craftsmen wind up with. Thanks for the eye candy.

Paul,

I am really glad I had the 70 dehorned, I think it really sets it off having those "softer" edges. I would not have wanted it dehorned any MORE though, they did a perfect job on it.

Sometimes when nobody else is home I pull them out just to gawk.....errrr....gaze....uuummmm......wipe them down....Yeah, thats it, to keep them clean and ready to shoot!

I agree that the custom shop at Colt does great work. I sent them a rather pitiful Diamondback .38 Special back to the factory for a refinish and an action job. Colt offers 2 types of refinishing/rebluing; standard and royal blue. While the standard Diamondback had a standard bluing, I chose their royal blue. I couldn't believe the revolver when I got it back - beautiful and the action was very nice. I believe the rebluing and action job together cost me around $250 plus shipping.

Those Colts look fantastic! Especially the Series 70.

I recently picked up an old Combat Elite. A good deal, but scratches on the frame, rust spots under the rubber grips, and what looks like a few white paint speckles on top of the slide. Been thinking about sending it in to have it refinished/restored. I'm more encouraged to do so after seeing your pics!
